Southeast Kansas Association of REALTORS® Releases Home Sales Figures for December 2017
Homes sales in Southeast Kansas rose by 4.7% in December compared to the prior year. Sales in December 2017 totaled 67 units, up from 64 in 2016. The average sale price was $66,403. This represents an increase of 6.6% from the December 2016 average price of $62,289.
A total of 65 contracts for sale were written in December 2017, up from 57 in December 2016. This is an increase of 14.0%. Contracts written during the month reflect, in part, sales that will close in the near future.
The inventory of active listings in Southeast Kansas stood at 758 units at the end of December, which is up from 717 homes that were on the market at the end of December last year. At the current rate of sales, this figure represents 11.3 months’ supply of homes on the market.
According to Julie Eisele, President of the Southeast Kansas Association of REALTORS®, “2017 was a good year for home sales in Southeast Kansas. At year’s end, 959 homes were sold, up nearly 10% over last year. An abundant supply of homes has kept sellers competing for buyers, keeping prices from climbing. The average price in 2017 was $78,657, and the median price was $62,000 (half for more, and half for less). The median days on market (the length of time for a home to be placed under contract) dropped slightly to 79 days. As we head into 2018, we’re optimistic that homes sales will remain strong. The peak months for selling begin in the spring, and it’s time now for home buyers and sellers to call their real estate professional for their help.”
