Southeast Kansas Association of REALTORS® Releases Home Sales Figures for March 2018
Homes sales in Southeast Kansas fell by 15.6% in March compared to the prior year. Sales in March 2018 totaled 81 units, down from 96 in 2017. The average sale price was $73,322. This represents a decrease of 4.5% from the March 2017 average price of $76,757.
A total of 81 contracts for sale were written in March 2018, down from 98 in March 2017. This is a decrease of 17.3%. Contracts written during the month reflect, in part, sales that will close in the near future.
According to Julie Eisele, President of the Southeast Kansas Association of REALTORS®, “With our first 3 months of the year now behind us, home sales for Southeast Kansas are slightly ahead of last year with 212 homes sold, totaling $16.3 million in volume. Through the 1st quarter, home sales in Coffeyville were up 4%, sales in Parsons were up 6%, while home sales in Independence were up 11%. The number of pending listings in the region sits at 105, which is also 4% ahead of last year.”
The inventory of active listings in Southeast Kansas stood at 724 units at the end of March, which is down from 768 homes that were on the market at the end of March last year. At the current rate of sales, this figure represents 8.9 months’ supply of homes on the market.
Eisele added, “Something to note is that the number of homes listed for sale so far this year is 421, while it was 522 last year. With 100 fewer listings hitting the market this spring, agents are in need of quality new listings to match with the buyers they represent. The sellers who take the advice of their real estate professional and properly prepare their home for sale, and price their home competitively, are seeing great success!”
